What's the story with you and Zebra Baby? did you even meet? how did you work on the beatmaking ?
Yes, Char came to me just after a skype concert with Puma Mimi in Brooklyn, and gave me some headphones, i had to check out her new kaossilator...
we recorded the songs in New York.
Is it what we could call a side project band? Will there be others?
I see it as i m the producer of this EP (they had some other producer, but it seems, i m their favorite one...)
and because some organizer wish to have a skype concert, we do sometimes with Zebra Baby. Michiko will be most time in Zurich this year.
I hope i can work on with zebra baby. it s a bit a money problem. i cant live in NY... it s too expensive... but lets see. maybe i spend some more holidays... :)
other projects... let s see. no plans yet...
Have you always wanted to do a hip hop oriented project?
My first band (organized by me), was hip hop :)
How do you manage to convince festivals to perform via Skype? Aren't they afraid of bugs?
What's the technical need for that kind of concerts?
For open air festival, skype concert is not so usefull. (it should be dark enough for the light of the video projection).
and i think, big festival needs real musicians... but at night it would be possible and funny... so far we played only "small" (around 300 people) and indoor skype concert/festivals.
It only needs internet and video projection.
But some clubs still dont have internet (eg. knitting factory in ny!!!)
Do you think you have opened a way to music globalization via Skype concerts? Has it ever been done before you?
In the 80s/90s some tech nerds did things like that. with orchestra and things... (future sound of london did an ISDN show...) but i think we are the first band using it on a "simple" and understandable way... skype is for free and everyone knows it. i wonder if people will do skype concerts in the future (or similar things...) but i think it will happen.
(maybe even 3D projection! :)
What are your plans with Puma Mimi? Sonar? a new album?
Yes after Sonar we want to focus on new album.
we will have more time in autumn, less money jobs...
my plan was first to release some small EPs maybe only via net and vinyl or even tape.
one project is the yamanote station melodies
if i get 5 songs together i will release as CDR and free download.
What's your opinion on the french musical scene?
I m impressed by the french electronic scene. some of them are very big but still very unique (Daft Punk, Air, Mr. Oizo, Ed Banger, Kitsune...)
I think they should come more often to Zurich, also small acts. as i told you, i like Gachette of the Mastiff too...
as a teenager i was big fan of french hip hop.
Sens Unik (ok, thats french swiss) Mc Solar, IAM, etc.
other music styles i dont know from France...
What's on your ipod at the moment?
big mix!
jealous guy by John Lennon
danse avec moi by Noze
Pizzicato Five
Triplettes de Belleville
Jamie Lidell
Mr. Oizo
Herbalizer
Jahcoozi
